Historical Society Program Meetings

Monthly meetings of the Historical Society are held September - May at the Olmsted-Urban House.  Programs of historical or general interest are presented, and refreshments are served.  Topics are of interest not just to Urbandale residents but those throughout the metro area. There is not a formal business meeting.

Program meetings are typically the Second Sunday of the month at 2:00 p.m.  Depending on Holidays, the Program meetings may have to be moved.  Everyone is welcome.  Please call 270-2917 for more information or check the link for monthly programs for the upcoming schedule of program topics.  The meetings are open to all.

Cancellations - If it is announced that local schools are closing and community events are being cancelled, you can assume the Historical Society will not be meeting.  If there is a cancellation the program will be moved to the next month's meeting or rescheduled if possible.

Open House

Open house for those who wish to visit the Olmsted-Urban House and barn.  Please watch the Announcement and Programs for the schedule.  The Open House times are typically scheduled from 2-4 p.m.  This is an opportunity to learn more of the history of Urbandale. There is no admission charge.  In December we have a special Open House for the Christmas Season.  The House and Barn are decorated for the holidays.  Come visit and enjoy the hospitality, tour the house and enjoy the refreshments.

Board Meetings

Urbandale Historical Society Board meetings are third Monday of the month at 1 pm held at the Olmsted-Urban house.  Meetings are open to the membership and public.

Ice Cream Social

This wonderful community event is held the last Sunday in June and provides for the kick-off of the great celebrations in Urbandale for the 4th of July.  The Ice Cream Social is from 2 to 4 pm on the grounds of the Olmsted-Urban House. Servings of homemade ice cream, choice of pie or cake, and beverage will be available.  You will be able to enjoy music, vintage cars, barn displays, and fellowship that are a part of this important fundraiser for the Historical Society.

Punch on the Porch

In October on 'trick or treat' night.  Carrying on the long standing tradition of Matie Urban, orange drink will be served as we welcome the children in the neighborhood and listen to their jokes.
